DARKBLOOD DISCOGRAPHY
DARKBLOOD BIO
Darkblood is essentially the first non-experimental recording project by Mark Howitt, having formed with the creation of the songs that would comprise the self-titled 2002 demo. These early songs were never released until 2022, however, but would lead to the creation of the Darkblood project.
The compositions created for Darkblood are haunting ambient drone melodies, often using climatic passages to stir up various emotions within the listener ranging from fear and sadness to hopefulness and triumph. The intent is to portray a visual feeling within the mind of the beholder, and in a sense create a soundtrack of sorts when the impact of the music is felt. Often these passages are sorrowful in nature, being a reflection of the emotion felt by the composer upon creation.
In 2008, selected songs from the 3rd full length Darkblood album were chosen to include the emotional vocal work of Chloe Jutras, which later were released as "The Forgotten E.P." in 2009. Although the albums were all created independently, they were never officially released until 2022 when Mark Howitt began releasing the back catalogue of materials, and therefore the Darkblood albums were all released officially under his self-titled solo project name. Despite this, the Darkblood albums are considered to be a separate project under the name Darkblood.
Many of the songs from the Darkblood catalogue have been used as the cinematic music for Mark Howitt's documentary films, adding a perfect emotional background to the themes and images described within the videos. It is expected that Darkblood will release many more albums and continue to create dark and emotional passages as an expression of Mark Howitt's range of musical output.
